Beaconsfield Road

Beaconsfield Road is a mid-terrace Victorian house situated within the Clyde Circus Conservation Area. Over time, the house had been altered in ways that obscured its original character: the London stock brick façade had been covered in stone cladding, and the original slate roof had been replaced with heavy concrete tiles. The project began with repair, carefully revealing the original fabric of the house and allowing it to breathe again. The failing concrete roof was replaced with natural slate, restoring the rhythm of the terrace and reducing the structural load on the building.

The kitchen and bathroom were remodelled in touches of red to celebrate the earthy tones of the house, while large new openings in the kitchen strengthened the connection with the generous garden. Previously identified as detracting from the conservation area, the house has been restored as a beautiful, long-term family home. Historic materials were reinstated where they had been lost, while contemporary additions were carefully introduced to improve light, access, structure and everyday living.
